What is a CSA?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. A CSA works to create a mutually beneficial connection between consumers and farmers. In the spring, community members who want to support the CSA farm can buy a subscription from the farm. In exchange, once the season is under way, members receive a share of fresh produce every other week throughout the growing season. The size of the share depends on how many members the farm supports and what the farm is able to produce.
Roots CSA Vision
The beauty of a CSA is that it allows the community to be involved with the production of their own locally grown, environmentally friendly food. It reduces the impact on the environment, both in farming methods and in "food miles," and provides superior nutrition not present in commercially farmed produce. Additionally, local farmers and businesses are supported in the exchange, keeping the economic investment within the community.
The Roots CSA is Coeur d'Alene's first Community Supported Agriculture project and is located in Dalton Gardens, a region well suited for small scale farming and growing. Dalton Gardens has an agrarian history and the Roots CSA helps preserve this special area of farmland. Learn more about how you can contribute to this exciting new project.
