Book Club

The KEA Book Club met on Saturday, January 16 at one of our member's home on Hayden Lake and we finished our discussion on the first book Last Child in the Woods. There are a few book club members that would like to create fun, educational and enriching outdoor activities for children and a new Education Committee of KEA has been formed to look at what's possible. More on that at a later date.

The group decided to read two short books in the next month: The first being, Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury -- Dandelion Wine pulls readers into a 12-year old boy's summer and reminds us how, for children, everything is magical. Through the eyes of Douglas Spaulding we, as readers, get to experience the magic and wonder of the essence of a well-lived summer when Douglas discovers he is indeed "alive".

The second by one of our founders and local author, Scott Reed, "The Treasure Called Tubbs Hill." As one of the community members who worked for decades to ensure the hill's preservation, Reed provides an inside view to the political and economic challenges and serendipitous twists that led to the protection of the property he refers to as "a green jewel" for the public's use.

Pick up a copy of your books locally at Hastings Book Store and receive a 15% discount by mentioning you are a member of the "KEA Book Club." You can also pick up Scott Reed's book at the CdA Parks & Recreation office in downtown CdA.

Join us for our next book club gathering on February 20th at the home of another member, Rod Schobert. Contact Rod for directions.
