Kootenai County Comprehensive Plan Update

Breaking News:  Planning Commission Passes New Comprehensive Plan

On Saturday afternoon, after weeks of difficult deliberations, the Kootenai County Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously passed a final draft of the County’s new Comprehensive Plan. The Plan now goes to the Board of County Commissioners for approval.

In response to public comment, the Planning Commission made a number of changes to its most recent draft of the Plan, primarily removing a number of goals and policies, and substantially reworking the controversial “Master Planned Communities” land use designation.

As part of the Board of County Commissioners process, the Commissioners will open a comment period and schedule hearings on the new Plan.  When KEA learns the schedule, we will pass that information along to you.  Meanwhile, in the coming week or two, Kootenai Environmental Alliance will carefully review the Planning Commission’s final draft and prepare comments for the County Commissioners.  We expect that KEA will be supporting the new plan before the Board of County Commissioners but will be suggesting a number of strengthening and clarifying amendments.  Stay tuned for more information and ways you can help.
