Curb the Flow . . . Conserve H2O
Kootenai Environmental Alliance is working in partnership with the cities of Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls on voluntary water conservation programs to reduce the amount of water used by homeowners and businesses. We also recommend the following water conservation measures for outdoors and in the home.
Protecting the Rathdrum Spokane Aquifer is a big job. But we can all take small steps that will greatly benefit this valuable natural resource. Using water intelligently is the first step.
We are very fortunate to have good quality water. We are also fortunate that we do not have to worry about our water supply at the moment. If we are intelligent about how we use water today, then we will more than likely not have to worry about our water supply in the future. Intelligent use of water often requires making only small changes in our daily habits.
Water usage in Coeur d'Alene was down last summer, even with a 3% increase in customers. The hot temperatures and more customers did not result in increased usage, rather the city of Coeur d'Alene saw a 3-5 million gallons/day reduction. Post Falls saw similar low numbers with an increase in customer base. Residents in both communities are becoming more informed on water use and are responding by implementing water conservation techniques.
